Box Inc. has released an update informing cloud users that its free offerings have been extended by 5GB, for a total of 10 gigs of online storage, completely free of charge. Everyone can get the storage today, including newcomers.

If you get Box today on your iPhone or iPad, the developers promise to give you 10GB of free storage and Box Sync.

“For a limited time only download and sign in to the Box app on any iOS device and get 10GB+Sync free,” says Box Inc.

Existing users only need to sign in, while newcomers will be required to create an account on the spot. It takes under a minute to activate, and you’ll be up and running with your free cloud storage before you know it.

“With 10GB+Sync, Box makes it easy to access and edit your files, share content and stay connected with your team from anywhere on any device,” says the company.

Version 2.8.1 is the latest build. It supports iOS 6 and iPhone 5, and includes the usual bag of fixes and performance enhancements.

“Box allows you to do all these things and more! Box OneCloud is our ecosystem of apps where you can annotate, e-sign and do more with your favorite productivity apps,” adds Box Inc. “More than 120,000 companies - including 92% of the FORTUNE 500, rely on Box for simple, secure content sharing.”

Much like the popular Dropbox, the free Box app lets users access, view, edit, share and manage files directly on their iDevice. Naturally, there’s a web interface to go back to when using a desktop computer, and file sharing is based on links.

The content is said to be secured with file-level encryption, passcode and auto logout when app is closed.
