The NAACP have expressed disappointment over the not guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman case, asking the DOJ to press civil rights charges.

“We will pursue civil rights charges with the Department of Justice, we will continue to fight for the removal of Stand Your Ground laws in every state and we will not rest until racial profiling in all its forms is outlawed,” NAACP President Benjamin Jealous said after the verdict was read out, on Sunday.

According to NY Daily News, reps for the Justice Department suggested that prosecutors can either go after Zimmerman with federal charges or for breaking “limited federal criminal civil rights statutes.”

As I wrote, protests broke out after Zimmerman was acquitted in Seminole County court in Sanford, Florida. Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti took to Twitter to urge protesters to express their frustration in a non-violent manner.
