George R.R. Martin reveals some weird requests from fans when it comes to his next books

His books and their corresponding television series have never been more popular, but George R.R. Martin is finding out that with fame and success, there comes more responsibility to the fans, who are never shy to ask what they want to read/see in the story of “Game of Thrones.”

Because his books are known to be full of very graphic episodes, be they with scenes of violence or extreme passion, readers are now taking this as a sign that they can reach out to the writer and have him insert their personal fantasies in the books.

Not so, claims Martin who has just revealed, according to the Telegraph, that fans have been insistently requesting explicit gay scenes in his upcoming books. Oddly, the writer claims that most of the letters and requests came from female fans who clearly wanted to read about some boy on boy action.

Martin blames the TV show for this sudden urge in more explicit scenes, because fans are now given faces to the characters they had to imagine until the series came out.

But don't worry, Martin says that he's not about to cave in to requests so easily. “I don't pretend to understand this” he said, while he stressed that he wouldn't “shy away” from his original storyline just because his fans insisted on it.

Ever the candid artist, Martin admits that “I'm not going to do it just for the sake of doing it. If the plot lends itself to that, if one of my viewpoint characters is in a situation, I'm not going to shy away from it,” thus giving some hope to some very frustrated women, but other than that, he's going to stick to his guns.

Then, the fantasy writer wittingly adds “I don't think I can insert things just because everyone wants them. If it was a democracy, Joffrey would have died much earlier than he did.” As you may or may not know, King Joffrey was voted one of the most unpopular characters in the series, thanks to the great acting of Jack Gleeson.

Filming for the fifth season of “Game of Thrones” is currently ongoing and the popularity of the series is breaking all audience records. This gives Martin hopes for more season in the future, and maybe a full-feature film to end it all, “If we go seven or eight seasons and then the show is still big enough that we can get the $200 million to finance a huge epic movie to end it ... sure.”

Let's hope there are enough characters left by then for the movie to actually take place. Martin has been especially busy in later series to kill off a lot of the main cast.
