Writer and director George Miller has returned to the “Mad Max” franchise with “Fury Road,” out in theaters worldwide as of May 15, with Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron as leads replacing franchise veteran Mel Gibson.

The Warner Bros. release is poised to make a killing at the box office, riding high a wave of near-flawless reviews and intense online hype. “Fury Road” is pretty much one of the most beautiful, original, and well put together action films of recent years, so no wonder analysts predict it will make a fortune in ticket sales.

Some hours ago, the Australian director joined Twitter - and if you’ve seen and loved “Fury Road,” you will love what he had to say in his first-ever message to fans: there will be more Max adventures.

You can see his message below. I should note that, some time ago, when “Fury Road” was still in production and rumors were running rampart that it was already over budget and facing creative obstacles, reports claimed that Warners had planned on 2 films to begin with.

So they wanted “Fury Road” and then immediately after, “Mad Max: Furiosa.” Furiosa is the newest female character introduced in “Fury Road,” played by Theron.

As of now, Theron has not addressed the possibility of her returning to the franchise, but Hardy did say this much last month: if “Fury Road” did well at the box office, Warners was game for delivering more installments. And he was on board for more.
