It's official, George Clooney is getting married. There's a sentence we'd never thought we'd get to write in this lifetime, since the Hollywood actor has spoken so vehemently against marriage on so many previous occasions.

The news that the couple have gotten their marriage license in London, where Amal is living at the moment, came via Dlisted, which received a photo from a reader, showing a piece of paper at the Chelsea Town Hall in London with the names of the two celebrities who had applied there.

The full names on the list read Amal Ramzi Alamuddin and George Timothy Clooney, so there's really no doubt that the document refers to the celebrity couple. The fact that Amal applied for a marriage license in London is just one of those necessary steps that has to be taken so that you can get legally married.

As part of the process, both and actor and the lawyer had to meet with the Superintendent Registrar at Chelsea Town Hall to sign the documents and pay a small fee of ₤35 (€44/$59) in order to record their intention to get married. The Registrar then puts up a legal notice which is publicly displayed for 16 days before they are allowed to wed.

The document in question also reveals the location of the wedding and it looks like the rumors were spot on again this time, it's going to take place in Italy. Most likely, the ceremony is going to take place next month, in September, but it's still not known if the couple will tie the knot at Clooney's Lake Como villa or at a palace in Venice.

The two are said to be weighing their options at the moment, but it really looks like it's going to take place in Venice rather than in Lake Como. The reason for that is to avoid paparazzi and media exposure coming to the small community. Clooney doesn't want to upset neighbors by bringing a media hell in their quiet little town, he wants to be able to come back there without people booing him.

That's why, a more elegant choice would be to get married far from his own home, in Venice, a very romantic destination after all, at a medieval palace where they can accommodate a larger number of people.

Last week, Amal has had her bridal shower, which took place in the home of actress Ellen Barkin, a close friend of Clooney's. The event was described as “intimate and low-key” and it brought together members of both Alamudin's and George's families.
