General consensus indicated that George Clooney should have selected longtime friend Bad Pitt as his best man at his upcoming wedding to Amal Alamuddin. However, a recent report from British tabloid The Sun claims that George has selected his “Monuments Men” co-star Matt Damon.

A source tells the magazine, “A lot of people thought Brad was a certainty to be George's best man as they have been such good friends for years. But he is probably even closer to Matt.” From the outside, it sure doesn't look like it, but maybe Brad and George have drifted further apart with the years.

The source also points out that “Besides many years ago, during one drunken night together, George made a promise to Matt that he would make him his best man if he ever got married - so Matt called to claim his prize.”

So, as it turns out, it was Matt Damon who insisted on the honor, after having heard that George had decided to tie the knot with his lawyer girlfriend by proposing to her. The three friends are all known pranksters and it was probably an inside joke with them.

However, we should still expect to see Brad at the wedding, as the insider points out, “Brad took the news with good grace - but he did say he'd heckle Matt during his speech.”

At the moment, the wedding to Amal is believed to be taking place this fall, although the location is still being debated. The most viable choices for now are Clooney's Lake Como villa in Italy and his villa in Cabo, San Luca in Mexico.

However, one should not leave out the possibility of having the wedding in London, where Amal is currently living and working. George Clooney was reported to be searching for a home in the area prior to the engagement, in order to be closer to Amal, who has been spotted returning to work for the Dougthy Street Chambers after her whirlwind adventure with the Hollywood hunk.

Amal's family is said to have accepted the actor after a long courtship in which he was initially shot down, so that he had to resort to sneaky tactics after the barrister wouldn't even take his phone number. In the end, it all worked out for the best and now they're set to be married.

Don't count on wedding photos though, the couple is notoriously publicity shy and, taking into consideration Amal's line of business, expect George to become even scarcer in photo ops with paparazzi.
