And you thought it would never happen! Hollywood silver fox George Clooney, aka the hottest bachelor in showbiz, is officially going off the market today, Saturday, September 27, 2014, when he will marry international rights attorney Amal Alamuddin in Venice, Italy.

Clooney had confirmed the location a while back but never released a date, presumably thinking this would keep paparazzi at bay. He was wrong because they’re always on his trail – and they have just confirmed that the wedding is going down this weekend.

Don’t expect this to be a low-profile, intimate affair

Good friend Brad Pitt married longtime partner Angelina Jolie at their estate in France, in a ceremony that included 22 people with the groom, bride, and their 6 children together, but Clooney plans to go all out for his own nuptials.

The wedding celebrations will last for the entire weekend, Us Weekly reports, and have already started the moment Amal and George arrived in Venice.

Since then, they have been constantly followed around by the paparazzi, and for once, they don’t seem to mind it at all. Then again, it’s not like they have any other choice about the madness they generated than to be gracious about it.

The photo attached to this article, for instance, shows them getting off a boat to meet with friends – and they’re actually taking the time to pose for the cameras. They were then followed by several paparazzi boats around town, as they chatted with good friends Cindy Crawford and husband Rende Gerber.

The celebrity guests

Cindy and Randy are just two of the big names that have already arrived in Venice for the celebrations. Matt Damon, another one of George’s best friends, is also there with his wife. Ellen Barkin, Toto guitarist Steve Lukather, and actor Richard Kind were also spotted by the paps.

Also photographed in Venice at this time was Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour who, by all accounts, should be in Paris right now for Fashion Week. Her presence here can only mean one thing: she will be attending the wedding (take that, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West!) and it will be featured in one of the upcoming editions of Vogue.

OK, make that two things instead of one.

Only the best for the best

As for the celebrations, they will mostly take place at the famous Cipriani hotel, which will host the rehearsal dinner, the breakfast on the morning of the wedding, and a cocktail afterparty after the reception.

The ceremony and the reception will take place at the Aman hotel, with the latter consisting of “five course banquet created by Italian chef Riccardo de Pra, famous for his pairing European and Asian cuisines,” Us Weekly says.

“Festivities will continue into Sunday, with another dinner planned at the Cipriani that evening, before the couple finish off their European wedding weekend with a civil ceremony on Monday,” the report continues.

The bride will probably wear Alexander McQueen or Oscar de la Renta, but that is still to be confirmed.

Given the fact that she and her future husband seem to have embraced the idea that the affair will be highly mediated, it’s not unreasonable to expect wedding portraits in one of the major glossies, ahead of the Vogue spread.
