One of the most recent episodes of American Idol, the one where Idol wannabes from Atlanta auditioned for a chance at the much-coveted first prize, introduced the world to one of the most catchy songs ever to be put out there. General Larry Platt sang for the AI judges the rap-influenced “Pants on the Ground” – and he’s now preparing to make money off it, TMZ has learned.

As anyone with a PC and an Internet connection must already know by know, “Pants on the Ground” is literally the latest phenomenon to take the world by storm. There are not only countless parodies of the song but also remixes and renderings by celebrities. The problem is, TMZ says, while the world is falling head over heels with “Pants on the Ground,” Platt is not getting paid, a thing he plans to remediate as soon as possible with the help of a legal representative.

“‘General’ Larry Platt – the musical mastermind behind ‘Pants on the Ground’ – hasn’t seen a dime since everyone and their mother started singing his tune... and now he’s lawyering up in the hopes of finally raking in some cash. Platt tells TMZ he loves the countless parodies and remixes of his tune – but says since he’s the one who wrote the greatest song ever created about pants being on the ground... he’s the one who should be getting paid,” TMZ writes after talking to the overnight superstar.

There is a problem to this, though, as Platt did not copyright the song, perhaps because he never actually thought it would go beyond the walls of his own house. “Problem is Platt never copyrighted the song... so he’s looking to hire an attorney to help him snag a slice of the ‘Pants’ craze while he can. For the record, Platt has seen Brett Favre’s rendition and liked it... and if Brett’s up for it, Platt would love to get Brett on board for a duet,” TMZ further explains.

As we also told you the other day, Platt was invited on The View just recently, where he performed the song that catapulted him to international fame and explained what inspired him to write it. As expected, “Pants on the Ground” is about men (gangstas) who don’t like belts and, well, wear their pants on the ground.
