If 12.2-inch tablets still aren't big enough for you, you should be happy to know start-up Gembird has your back. The company is arguing tablets have become part of our lives, since we all play games, browse and watch videos, but how about professionals?
According to Gembird, Samsung’s latest 12.2-inch GalaxyPRO tablets have no chance of satisfying them. The company is taking into consideration the main complaints of enterprise workers and has come up with the solution. A massive 13.3-inch tablet.
Gembird says most professional users complain the screen tablets are way too small and at the very least they should be able to accommodate A4-size documents without the need to scale them. On top of that, it is argued that connecting various peripherals (like keyboard and mouse) isn't exactly an easy task.
But Gembird thinks it has come up with the perfect solution for all these woes, so its introducing the 13.3-inch tablet (which doesn’t have a name at the moment).
The slate will have a 1600 x 900 pixel resolution, which is ridiculous to say the least, given the enormous size of the screen. Under the hood, customers can choose between the standard (RK3066 dual-core 1.5GHz combined with 1GB of RAM) version, advanced mode (RK3188 quad-core 1.6GHz fitted with 1GB of RAM) or professional (RK3188 quad core 1.6GHz combined with 2GB of RAM).
Internal storage has been set at 16GB, but customers can increase it up to 32GB via the microSD card. Another funny aspect is the tablet runs the massively outdated Android 4.1 OS.
Anyway, it’s not all bad and the 13.3-incher has some features that would indeed prove worthy for professional use. For example, we have the E-printer function, which allows users to connect the tablet to a PC or MAC and it will be recognized as a printer (at a hardware level, says the company).
Afterwards, adopters will be able to print any documents with weird connection or wirelessly. Furthermore, the tablet comes with a dedicated docking station companion, capable of transforming the slate into a full desktop PC.Other specifications include WLAN 802.11 b/g/n, HDMI out, two cameras (0.3MP in front and 0.2MP on the back) and a pretty massive 12,000 mAh battery.
The tablet isn't a reality just yet, but it’s up gathering funds on Indiegogo. For $249 / €181, a pledger could get a dual-core tablet with international postage included.
However, it is doubtful this tablet will capture the attention of professionals. While the pricing might be right, the lack of compelling specifications and enterprise app ecosystem will keep curious parties away from this product.
