Since the number of DisplayPort-enabled PC monitors out there is increasing (slowly, but steadily), Gefen has decided to come up with a solution that will help out those users who wish to view DVI dual link video via the Mini DisplayPort interface.

The GefenTV Dual Link DVI to Mini DP Converter can also prove to be quite a good solution when dealing with Standard DisplayPort connections with a passive Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable, the audio support being supplied via a 3.5mm audio connector, while the power required by this device in order to function properly is provided via an USB cable supplied with the sales package.

It's also very important to point out that the converter supports no less than three different EDID modes: 2560x1600, 2560x1440, or pass-through, the appropriate EDID mode based on the capabilities of the display attached being selectable via a dedicated button placed on the converter, while an included LED will indicate which particular mode is active at any given moment.

Gefen also mentions the fact that this thing supports Apple 24" and 27" LED Cinema Displays, probably the world's best-known monitors to incorporate DisplayPort connectors, but we're pretty sure that they work with other such products as well, such as the monitors from Dell, BenQ, etc.

Plus, given the fact that it measures just around 4.75 x 1.75 x 3.25 inches and weighs around 2 pounds, finding a suitable location for this thing around one's displays shouldn't prove to be much of a problem, all things considered.

Last, but certainly not least, we'll have to mention that the Gefen converter sells for around $199.00, which, without a doubt, is not exactly a very small price, but, then again, none of the otherwise extremely versatile and useful products from Gefen are in the realm of affordability.
