Today, SGP Technologies SA (a joint venture between Silent Circle and Geeksphone, the two companies behind the first smartphone in the world said to arrive on shelves with a focus on security and privacy) has announced that the device will be powered by an Nvidia Tegra 4i processor.

According to the company, the inclusion of this CPU inside the device will ensure that users will receive the level of performance they expect from a device today, and that the PrivatOS suite of Android tool and bundled software will run smoothly on it.

SGP Technologies SA also notes that the Tegra 4i will be able to provide users with superior multimedia, web browsing and networking experiences, and that it will also offer full support for the various privacy features and services that the new device will land on shelves with.

The Nvidia Tegra 4i processor was unveiled with 60 custom GPU cores, as well as with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 r4 CPU, and a fifth battery-saver core, in addition to the integrated NVIDIA i500 LTE modem.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the Blackphone was announced as the first high-end smartphone that would focus mainly on privacy and security, and which would also allow users to control them.

The Geeksphone Blackphone comes to the market with the PrivatOS loaded on top, which was built on Android, but which packs a series of privacy-enabled applications, so that users would always be in control of their communications activities.

The specifications list of the upcoming device also includes a 4.7-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a 720p resolution, as well as 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal memory.

Moreover, the handset sports an 8-megapixel camera on the back, with autofocus and LED flash, as well as a 5MP front camera for making video calls while on the go.

The specs list of this device also includes LTE and HSPA+ connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, and a 2000mAh battery. The OS loaded on it has been built on top of Android 4.4 KitKat.

"With Blackphone we have engineered a high-end smartphone rivaling the top devices on the market in terms of performance and user experience – and with comprehensive embedded privacy features as a crucial differentiator," said Toby Weir-Jones, CEO of SGP Technologies SA.

"NVIDIA's industry leadership and the compelling advantages of their Tegra 4i mobile processor make them a key partner in creating a disruptive product backed by the best components available."

The Blackphone was put up for pre-sale on February 24 this year and sold out fast. The first batch of units is expected to arrive in users’ hands in Europe and America as soon as June this year.
