Gaming on a tablet

The talk of the technology world at the moment is the new iPad tablet computing solution unveiled by Apple. The device, which costs from 499 dollars upwards, is positioned to be another success for the company and given the impact the iPhone had on the world of gaming, taking a slice out of the market share of both the Nintendo DS and the PlayStation Portable from Sony, a lot of developers have been looking at the new tablet with curiosity.

Mark Rein, who is one of the vice presidents of Epic Games, told Gamasutra after the event hosted by Apple that “I really like the device and I think it is going to be great for gaming. I thought the game demos at the event were amazing, considering the developers on stage only had a few weeks of access to it.”

Epic recently made some waves after saying that they managed to get the Unreal Engine 3 technology working on the Apple made iPhone. Considering that most things running on the phone can also run on the new iPad, Epic might be interested in bringing some of its classic shooters to the gadget.

Rein stated that “We'll have to get an iPad in our hands and evaluate it from a hardware standpoint before we can say for sure what we can do on it, but I'm very excited about the opportunity the iPad presents.” His initial impression of the device was very good, especially considering that this is only the first version of what Apple will make into an ever growing series like the iPod.

At the moment, Epic is probably working on Gears of War 3, the third installment in their Xbox 360 exclusive third person game series that has largely redefined the experience of the space shooter on gaming consoles. The title is not yet officially in development but an announcement might arrive at E3.
