Gears of War 3, the upcoming third-person shooter from Epic Games and Microsoft has the power to attract regular first-person shooter players, who usually favor franchises like Halo or Call of Duty.

Gears of War 3 is currently still in development at Epic Games and is scheduled to be published exclusively for the Xbox 360 this September.

According to Kevin Unangst, the senior producer of Microsoft's interactive entertainment business, the third-person game can attract other types of gamers that have yet to experience the franchise on the Xbox 360.

The game is quite big and fans of the series will no doubt be pleased, Unangst revealed, saying that the two companies have worked together in order to really polish the game.

"It is the biggest and best Gears we've done, it is our blockbuster and a huge, huge release for us," he said.

One of the all-new multiplayer modes, Team Deathmatch, a classic for first-person shooters, will certainly help draw in players.

"Personally I play Team Deathmatch a lot and they've got that so I'm personally quite excited," Unangst added. "I think it's going to be huge. Adding modes like that is important because there's a lot of Halo and Call of Duty players so it's another way we can bring [those] players to Gears of War."

The first taste of Gears of War 3 can be had with a multiplayer beta stage of the game, which starts on April 18, for those who bought the Bulletstorm Epic Edition, and on April 25, for anyone who pre-ordered the full game.

The stage is going to be used by Epic Games to polish up the multiplayer mode, in order to avoid the lackluster reception that happened with Gears of War 2.

Gears of War 3 will be officially launched onto the Xbox 360 on September 20.
