New promises from Epic Games

Gears of War 2 was one of the most expected games that were launched before the 2008 holiday season. It promised to bring back the same non stop shooter action, backed up by some breathtaking environments and new multiplayer modes.

Although it delivered on some of those promises, the game was plagued by a variety of bugs, which prompted a very negative user backlash. Although the development team at Epic Games released a patch some time ago, which should have addressed a lot of those problems, users still complained of online lag which rendered any multiplayer game unplayable.

But it seems that things are going to change for the better this time, as Mark Rein, one of the executives of Epic Games, has just announced on the Gears of War 2 official forum that a title update is nearing completion, and, with a bit of luck, might be launched this month for all Gears fans to enjoy. This update promises to fix quite a lot of bugs and will definitely be a sight for sore eyes for a lot of gamers out there.

“This update will address bugs and exploits as well as add some new achievements related to downloadable content. We’re fixing a whole bunch of online exploits. For example we’ve fixed the ability to wield an invisible shield, melee through some walls, gain infinite Lancer ammo and equip a shield and a two-handed weapon simultaneously plus many more. We’re also making several small changes to improve the overall online gameplay experience. A few of the ones that might interest you are; increased penalties for quitting matches early, adding additional spawn protection against planted grenades and chainsaw attacks, and adding the ability to see the Submission flag carrier destination by using Tac/Com.”

Also, Rein wanted to address the huge amount of complaints regarding the shotgun weapon, which saw its power severely decreased from the first Gears of War, decision motivated by designers because it was too powerful compared to other weapons. “We fixed the client side hit detection on the shotgun so that in a high-latency (i.e. “laggy”) match, the shotgun will be more reliable. We’ve also fixed another bug whereby shotgun and boomshot rounds could strike the ground when firing from the hip,” said Rein.

It definitely seems that Gears of War 2 might finally have all of its problems solved. Will this Title Update make you play this game again? Let us know by using the comment box below.
