Just when you thought developers had run out of ideas related to the promotion of their games, comes this interesting idea from Microsoft and Epic Games. In order to promote Gears of War 2, a tactical third person shooter developed exclusively for the Xbox 360, they partnered with Spike TV to produce a reality show based on the game.

Die hard gamers are wanted to star in the new reality show and to win the chance of playing Gears of War 2 a month ahead of its official release date, which is November 7.

Here's a bit of information from the official announcement from the game's website: “Just like in the game, challenges, tough decisions and sacrifices stand in the path of victory. In a fast paced reality show that feels like an alternate reality game brought to life, your team must work together to reach the ultimate goal: Becoming the first gamers in the world to play through the entire saga of Gears of War 2 in early October”.

If it sounds pretty tempting and you're a resident of the United States, then all you have to do is head over to the game's website and fill out a questionnaire regarding the game, send a photo and the interesting part, a 150-word pitch on why you should be starring in the reality show. If you're lucky enough to be chosen, you're surely in for a very interesting experience.

I've seen quite a lot of interesting marketing campaigns but this one really takes the proverbial cake, a game based reality show is really taking it too far. I can only imagine in what kind of challenges the contestants will go through; a post apocalyptic game isn't the easiest to be recreated in a TV show.
