Developer Gearbox has offered the first details on the newest downloadable content that is set to be launched for its Borderlands title, set to arrive on September 28 on all the platforms on which the original game is available.

Claptrap's New Robot Revolution is set to open up with a scene setting piece done in the style of a diorama which shows how and why the Claptraps are revolting and taking over the in game universe, starting to chance the very nature of the population.

There are six zones that players will need to fight their way through before the end of the content with the quests dolled out at Tartarus Station.

Gearbox has also mentioned that old foes will fight alongside new ones and that the player characters, alongside old favorites like General Knoxx and Dr. Ned, will get the “claptrap treatment”.

The developers have also confirmed that the DLC itself will not be delivering an increase in the level cap but that it will be handled via a free patch that will be available before September 28.

The idea is that players will enjoy a level cap increase regardless of the amount of DLC they have installed for their copy of Borderlands.

Gearbox is also offering an incentive for those who are interested in playing through Claptrap's New Robot Revolution twice, giving them two skill points and more storage space.

Gearbox has made headlines in the last few days because of their decision to take on development duties for Duke Nukem Forever, continuing the effort which seemed to end last year when 3D Realms was bankrupted by the project.

A playable demo of the video game was on offer at the PAX 2010 show and a launch date is expected for 2011.

The company has also confirmed that they are still working on Aliens: Colonial Marines, a squad based shooter that will deliver both action and horror.
