Gaucho pants originally came into fashion in the 1960s, and were wildly popular - however, the trend died down and for a while, there was no word on these quircky slacks that reach to calf-length and then flare into a wider hem. Originally worn by Spanish riders, they made the crossing into the realms of high fashion and are coming back with a vengeance. The trend is not new - revamped versions of the original gauchos have been around for about three years - however, due to their versatility and form-friendly cut, these pants are now hotter than ever.

"Gauchos initially took off with the university crowd, but they're now selling well to other age groups, as well. They're hard to beat, because they're as versatile and comfortable as your favorite pants or jeans, yet have the look of a skirt," one stylist says. And indeed, what's not to like about them? They're wonderfully versatile, and can be worn with a variety of tops and footwear. They can be dressed up with lacy blouses, camisoles and knit tops and dressed down with simple T-shirts, flip-flops and cardigans.

As I've mentioned before, the main strong point of these pants is that they can be modified to fit any type of event, whether extremely casual or more formal. More stylish gauchos can be made from fabrics such as jersey knit, as well as those fashioned from tweed, cotton twill, corduroy or velvet. If you're donning gauchos made from such a thick, elegant materials, you can easily dress them up and wear them on a night out with your friends. Add a trendy tunic-style or empire waist blouse, plain or textured tights and a pair of round toe heels, and you'll be the epitome of style. Enjoy these comfortable pants and the many style benefits you can reap by donning a pair as often as you see fit.
