Yesterday, Gateway announced three new servers, out of which a system powered up by four Intel Xeon processors which do not overcome the 4,000 USD limit, and the other two models represent systems for network storage and are available at less than 2,200 USD each.

In fact, all this systems (Gateway 9715 server, 9315 storage server, and 9415 storage server) are aimed at schools and other educational facilities, government agencies and small companies.

The models are endowed with Intel processors faster than 3 GHz, and the scalability has been increased up to a maximum of 3,6 terabytes, by including an Adaptec Snap Disk 30 expansion solution.

The 6U 9715 format rack-mounted-type system supports at maximum four 64 bits Xeon processors and up to 32 GB of memory. It is fitted with hot-swap redundancy sources and includes hot-plug PCI and memory slots, and compatible with Microsoft Windows Server, Netware 6.5 from Novell, Red Hat Linux Enterprise 3.0 and 3.0 EM64T, SuSE Linux Enterprise 9.0 and 9.0 EM64T also from Novell. The storage servers, models 9315 and respectively 9415, are endowed with three Serial ATA and SCSI drives, which assure an internal storage capacity of up to a maximum of 1,2 terabytes for the first model and 900 GB for the 9415 model. Both systems use the same Intel Xeon processors in one or two installed chips formulas, and the operating systems Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003. The prices for these systems start at 2,197 USD for the 9315 model and at 2,098 USD for the 9415 model.
