Gateway has just announced the introduction of a new series of entry-level notebooks that will pair AMD's first generation Fusion APUs with a 15.6-inch display to offer a cheap alternative to first time buyers and users on a budget.

The flagship model of the new line is the Gateway NV51B05u, which features a dual-core AMD E-350 APU, that is clocked at 1.6GHz and carries an integrated Radeon HD 6310 GPU, 3GB of system memory and a 500GB hard drive.

Right below the NV51B05u sits the NV51B02u that is powered by the same AMD E-350 APU, but packs just 2GB of DDR3 memory and comes with a smaller 320GB storage unit.

Finally, we come to the NV51B08u, the only notebook in Gateway's NV lineup to feature the dual-core 1GHz C-50 APU with on-die Radeon HD 6250 graphics. The APU is accompanied by 3GB of DDR3 memory and a 320GB hard drive.

The rest of the setup is similar for all the three models as they feature 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, a DVD writer, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, D-Sub and HDMI video outputs as well as a 6-cell 4400 mAh battery that can provide the notebooks with up to 4.7 hours of battery life. The 15.6-inch display supports a resolution of 1366x768 pixels.

“Mobile computing is something that everyone has embraced - and even those on a tight budget are now able to have a full-featured notebook for computing and staying in touch on-the-go,” said Eric Ackerson, senior product marketing manager for Gateway Notebooks.

“The new computing capabilities are paired with a full suite of features and extras that give our customers what they need to work, study, connect and have fun.

“Plus, we've reached a new level of affordability with budget-minded price tags, so our customers get an incredible bang for their buck,” concluded the company's rep.

Pricing starts at $400 for the NV51B08u model, while the AMD E-350 powered NV51B02u and NV51B05u are listed at $450 and $470, respectively.
