Following in the footsteps of its competitors, PC maker Gateway has recently announced the debut of its latest Intel Atom-based netbook solution. Dubbed LT21, the new ultraportable will provide users with a choice for a new netbook, featuring the latest Intel Atom technology. A wholly-owned subsidiary of Acer, one of the world's top PC vendors, the company will make the LT21 available to customers with a number of configuration options, including colors and OS choices.

"Netbooks have been firmly embraced by consumers as an incredibly convenient, easy-to-use way to stay connected, be more productive and stay in touch," said John Nguyen, product marketing manager for Gateway. "Gateway LT21 Series netbooks are designed to go anywhere for use by anyone, as their sleek form factor and intuitive design naturally fit into how people live and connect today."

As mentioned before, the LT21 is designed on the latest Intel Atom processors, meaning it packs the Atom N450 processor, formerly codenamed Pineview. The CPU is clocked at 1.66GHz and is featured with the integrated Intel GMA 3150 graphics chip. To complete the configuration, there's 1GB of RAM and 250GB hard drive. Additional features include a multi-gesture touchpad, a choice for a 3- or a 6-cell battery pack, all within a system that sports a 10.1-inch display (1024 x 600 pixels).

To sweeten the offer, the outfit will allow users to choose the color of their new netbook, with choices that include Cherry Red, NightSky Black and Glacier White. In addition, there's also a choice for a traditional Windows XP OS or a Windows 7 Starter operating system. Price-wise, you are looking at a system that will be available for US$300. According to available details, you should be able to pick one, later this month, when the netbook is scheduled to become available for purchase.
