When making a new product, companies always do their best to have it stand out as much as it can. Other times, a company may decide to release a less impressive device so as to make those that come afterwards seem more formidable than they otherwise would have. Unfortunately, there are certain market segments where variety is not all that easily found. In terms of performance, the netbook segment ranks quite high in this category. This means that PC suppliers have to think of other ways to boost their laptops' appeal.

Acer subsidiary gateway took a fairly straightforward stance and gave the LT23, its new netbook, a unique design meant to make it entrancing for those consumers that care about appearances. Spec-wise, the product is no different from the other Pine Trail entry-level mobile PCs. On the other hand, the aesthetic value is higher, thanks to the 'upscale design' and the color-on-color pattern on the lid. Gateway even offers multiple color options, such as pear, black and champagne.

“The Gateway LT23 netbook line is as beautiful as it is easy and fun to use,” said Pete Dailey, senior product marketing manager for Gateway notebooks and netbooks. “Netbooks are so popular for their ability to keep people in touch nearly anywhere in a form factor that is incredibly portable, as well as easy-to-use and familiar to customers. The Gateway LT23 delivers the on-the-go mobile performance customers want while also taking fashion seriously.”

The Gateway LT23 makes use of an Atom N450 1.66GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, the GMA 3150 integrated graphics and an HDD of up to 250GB. Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, a multi-gesture touchpad and a 6-cell battery (up to 8 hours life) is also present. Finally, the device has a price tag of $329.99 and a one-year warranty.
