Energy efficient Intel Core Series-based machines debut

Gateway was bought off by Acer back in 2007, just after the company sold off its business lineup to MPC, which is why there has been no action on gateway's part for several years. Now that MPC itself is, more or less, out of commission, Gateway seems ready to pick up where it left off and has resumed its business desktop sales. To mark the occasion, Acer's subsidiary, as any well-to-do IT entity would, has put together a pair of professional desktop PC lines meant to mark its reentry.

One might have thought that a few years of inactivity would have dulled the company's senses, but it looks as though this is definitely not the case. Either because it is building on its own experience or borrowing some from Acer itself, Gateway has put together a decent set of hardware that seems quite eager to get into as many offices as possible. Not only that, but the PC supplier seems to have also put special effort into maximizing energy efficiency, so as to also cater to the professional segment's need for low power consumption.

The DS50 and DS70 systems are the most diminutive members of the collection, using a small form factor case and either Intel Core i3 or Core i5 central processing units. They also feature 16GB DDR3 and a single hard disk drive, which provides up to 2TB storage space, more than enough for most applications. As for the Core i3/i5/i7-using DT50 and DT70, they feature 16GB Ram of their own, as well as up to 4 hard drives, which translates into a maximum capacity of 8TB.

Unfortunately, Gateway has not exactly given any details on what prices consumers can expect for these newest offerings, although it did mention that all were accompanied by a 1-year on-site and 2-year spare parts warranty. Regardless, the systems' compliance with ENERGY STAR 5.0 and TCO'05 specifications grants them enough power saving benefits to, at the very least, become a viable option for the professional market.
