Gateway is one of the most important system integrators and vendors worldwide and now it comes in several countries from Eastern Europe. Gateway's partnership with Tesco, in a move to leverage its position as computer hardware retailer on new and emerging markets, takes the two companies, one specialized in high end computer systems and one in extensive shopping centers, for the first time in Eastern Europe. As Tesco already has stores in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia, Gateway computer systems will be available in those countries just like Gateway systems are available for English customers through Tesco stores in the U.K.

"We are very pleased that Tesco, one of the world's premier retailers has selected Gateway as their PC launch partner for stores in Eastern Europe," said Bob Davidson, senior vice president, worldwide retail from the Gateway company, cited in a press release. "Tesco's selection of Gateway illustrates our proven strength and commitment to the retail channel. We've experienced great success with Tesco in the UK, and we look forward to replicating that success in Eastern Europe and beyond."

As the hardware vendor saw a sharp decline of its business in the U.S., the Gateway company looks forward to a new and expanding market overseas, a market not yet saturated with brand name products like the U.S. where top hardware manufacturers and vendors like HP and Dell dominate the entire market. According to a report by the market research firm IDC, null, cited by the news site InfoWorld, Gateway saw a big drop in PC shipments, " down to 965,000 PCs from 1.04 million machines during the same quarter of 2006".

According to the company's press release null "Gateway products have consistently earned awards and praise from leading industry publications in the UK, and the company expects the product line to be well received by customers throughout Eastern Europe. Gateway will also provide outstanding service and support to customers in Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia through its existing European call center, further leveraging its established presence in Europe".
