Today I was a bit lucky. Just as I was arriving to the Koelnmesse, where Gamescom is taking place, I noticed the long line of people who were waiting to get in and I put in a little sprint, conscious of the fact that if I was to see any video games today I needed to move fast to keep away from the torrents of public that would soon be flooding the four halls of the exposition.

It's been an interesting day. First up on the agenda was RAGE, the new shooter based on an entirely new game universe coming from John Carmack and the id Software team.

The game is looking exceptional even if there's quite a bit of development time left before the September 2011 probable launch date.

Then I got in at the last minute to see a demo of Call of Duty: Black Ops, a game which looks like it has taken the best elements of the Modern Warfare series and adapted them to the Cold War.

Let's hope it does not pick up any of the flaws and watch how the game is welcomed in early November.

Another highlight of the day was Diablo III, which was playable using four different characters at Gamescom. I ended up using the classic Barbarian and saw a solid yet somewhat by the numbers game. I waited for about one hour to get a little bit of time with the game.

The show floor is more interesting with a high number of gamers running around excited, trying to see their favorite companies and their favorite future launches.

My biggest disappointment is that I didn't get to play Civilization V, one of the most interesting launches of September. Yesterday they had some problems with their demo machines and today the crowd was just too big.
