The war simulator is looking really good on the PlayStation 4

War Thunder impressed quite a lot of players with the ongoing open beta stage on the PC platform and, when developer Gaijin Entertainment confirmed that it was going to release its war simulator onto the PlayStation 4, many console owners got excited about the free-to-play experience.

War Thunder is an ambitious online title that allows players to control airplanes, tanks, and naval ships all on the same battlefield in massive multiplayer matches.

The game has been a long time coming and for some time it's been in open beta on the PC platform.

After the PlayStation 4 was revealed, however, Gaijin quickly confirmed that it was working on adapting its free-to-play online game to the next-gen platform.

At Gamescom 2013 last week, the studio presented a live demonstration of the online game on the PlayStation 4.

According to Gaijin, at first only planes will be available in this version of the title, as tanks are going to be added later this year, while ships are set to reach it in 2014.

Even so, PS4 owners will be able to access multiplayer matches across all platforms, as Sony is allowing Gaijin to deploy updates as fast as on the PC platform, meaning all versions of the game can be patched simultaneously and ensure compatibility.

In terms of visuals, the game looks pretty impressive on the PS4, although seeing as how you're in an airplane, you don't have time to really analyze the textures on the ground.

War Thunder will retain its current business model and, in case you forgot, won't require a PlayStation Plus membership to play it online.

While PlayStation Vita Remote Play isn't going to be supported at launch, Gaijin isn't ruling out the possibility of letting PS4 owners use their PS Vita to play War Thunder.

The online game is set to make its debut this November, alongside the PS4.
