Quite a lot of games have managed to draw in big crowds at Gamescom 2013 this week and among the most popular was Titanfall, the first-person online shooter from Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts.

Coming from Call of Duty veterans and with the premise of a near future war between agile fighters called Pilots and hulking mechs called Titans, the game is very promising and already impressed plenty of gamers earlier this summer at E3 2013.

At Gamescom 2013, Respawn and EA constructed a huge Titan right in front of the main booth, and allowed players to engage in big online battles

There are two major factions in Titanfall and each is comprised of fighters from three different classes, like the Assault or the Close Quarters. Each have different loadouts and powers designed to make the most of their play style.

There are also three different types of Titans, each fitted with different primary weapons and abilities that will make them deadly not just to the fragile pilots but also to other Titans.

While there will be regular team deathmatches in the multiplayer shooter, Respawn showcased a story-based encounter in a special mode called Attrition, that sees the two teams try to out-score the other.

In terms of gameplay Titanfall truly shines as controlling either pilots or Titans is intuitive, fast-paced, and very responsive at a rock-solid 60fps.

Pilots are quite agile and, in a first-person shooter, their nimbleness, coupled with double-jumps and wall-runs, take some time to master.

Titans, on the other hand, should feel familiar to fans of MechWarrior or Hawken, but they're also pretty agile and, depending on their main weapons and secondary abilities, can change the tide of a battle.

Each players have different timers until their Titan drops onto the battlefield so they need to stay alive, explore the big map, and try to eliminate fellow pilots, either controlled by other players or by the AI, and to take pot-shots at enemy titans using their special anti-Titan guns.

Overall, the whole experience feels quite fun and will definitely please first-person shooter fans who are looking for something new in terms of multiplayer.

Titanfall is set to appear next year for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
