Last year in June, French mobile games developer and publisher Gameloft announced that it had started to work on the next title in the Modern Combat franchise for Android and iOS platforms. The first trailer was launched the same month, but no additional details on its release have been shared with the public until recently.

About two weeks ago, Gameloft officially announced that the next game in the FPS (first-person shooter) series would be called Modern Combat 5: Blackout, but again, it failed to offer more info on the game and release date.

This week, the French company took it to its own blog to share more details on what was to come. Well, according to Gameloft, the single-player campaign of Modern Combat 5: Blackout will feature short missions in order to accommodate shorter gaming sessions for mobile phone users.

However, the fact that they will be short should not impact on diversity and suspense usually delivered by story-driven games. The developer also talks a bit about the story of the fifth installment in the Modern Combat series and explains how the game starts.

But what’s really new is how players will be able to progress into the game and how many classes you will be able to choose from. Well, it appears that Modern Combat 5: Blackout will feature a “unified progression system,” so both single and multiplayer progress will be intertwined to offer a single gaming experience.

Basically, the experience you get while playing the single-player campaign will be reflected in the multiplayer aspect as well, the moment you decide to start a multiplayer session. The same goes for multiplayer experience, which will be shown in the single-player mode as well.

Gameloft has also confirmed that all weapons that are unlocked in either single player or multiplayer will be usable in both modes at any time.

And to spice things up, the French company has also announced the four classes that will be available in Modern Combat 5: Blackout. You can check them out below, along with their description.

Assault – An aggressive fighter that is effective at medium range combat. Equips assault rifles and pistols. Heavy – Resilience is its main advantage. Equips shotguns and RPGs. The Heavy feels at home in close to medium range combat. Recon – Focuses on fast action and exposing enemies. Equips SMGs and pistols. The Recon is efficient in close range combat. Sniper – Focuses on sharpshooting with a stealth approach. Equips sniper rifles (obviously) and pistols. Efficient in long distance combat.”

Unfortunately, there’s no telling when exactly the game will be launched, but as far as we know, it will not be released this month. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
