Android fans rejoice as Gameloft has just released the third title in the N.O.V.A. series of games in the Google Play store. Although the mobile game was launched about a month ago, only iOS users have been able to download and play the game on their smartphones.

However, starting this week, Android users can grab N.O.V.A. 3: Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance via Google Play.

It appears that since its launch on May 10, N.O.V.A. 3: Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance for iOS has earned a spot in the top 10 paying games on the App Store in 69 countries.

We are pleased with the extremely positive reception this latest installment has enjoyed across the world. The accessible gameplay and its multiplayer mode, , which allows for up to 12 users to play together at a time, make N.O.V.A. 3: Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance an FPS that has never been seen before on smartphones and tablets,” said Gonzague de Vallois, senior vice president of Publishing at Gameloft.

Gameloft hopes to achieve the same level of popularity with the Android version of the game, though the N.O.V.A. 3 does not come cheap.

The story of the game follows the adventure of Kal Hardin who is now once again rising to save humankind.

Four months have passed since Kal ruined the Volterites’ plans by sabotaging their war factories, but President Folsom has been murdered and the government was forced to surrender the colonies to the Volterite Preotectorate.

There are 10 single-player levels spread across the galaxy from Earth to a frozen Volterite city. Lots of weapons and powers will help Kal defeat hordes of enemies. In addition, the game features 12-player battles in 6-player multiplayer modes on 6 different maps.

N.O.V.A. 3 – Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance is now available for download via Google Play for $6.99 and it should be compatible with most devices running Android 2.2 Froyo and up. Keep in mind that the game requires 2GB of free memory to install.
