The video above, made by George R.R. Martin fans who simply could not wait for him to come out with the final two novels in the “Song of Ice and Fire” series (translated to the small screen by HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), is why the author would rather he wouldn’t log in to fan forums.

At a recent “Game of Thrones” event (season 3 premieres on March 31), Martin spoke to Mashable about how painfully aware he is that he must write faster.

First of all, the HBO show is catching up with him, he says, and he’s almost positive producers won’t take kindly to that.

Secondly, he wants the final two books out to fans, to offer them closure.

“So I need to write faster. The last two books took a really long time, so I'm hoping this one [the Winds of Winter] will go a little faster. But I make no promises,” he says.

He’s right about that, after having been burned by his very own deadlines in the past, which he had to push back.

“I found out long ago that when you look at the overall task, the cathedral you have to build, it looks so daunting that you just give up and sit down and play a video game,” he says.

He’s trying hard though and, for his fans, this should be enough.
