Actors or famous people in general opening up and coming out as gay are becoming a common occurrence these days, which is something that indicates the gay community is less likely to be pigeonholed and persecuted by our modern society.

The latest actor to come out of the closet is Irish thespian Kristian Nairn, known to the entire world as Hodor from the TV adaptation of the George R. R. Martin books “Game of Thrones.” In an interview with the website WinterIsComing, Nairn confessed that he was part of the LGBT community.

The discussion came to the point where he was asked about the great number of fans he held from the said community, to which he replied, “Well, in all honesty, when you talk about ‘the gay community,’ you are talking about MY community.”

He gushed at the support he received from his fans related to his preferences and orientation, claiming that it was all positive, “I AM aware of it yeah, and I think it's really lovely. There's not a day that I don't get a few messages, but 99 percent or more are super sweet and nothing smutty at all! Again, it's a privilege, and I really mean that.”

It turns out that Nairn has been waiting for the subject of his orientation to pop up in an interview so he can come clean, as he's never hidden it from anyone, “I've been waiting for someone to ask about it in an interview, cos it's not something you just blurt out. I've tried to lead the questions a few times, to no avail!”

More importantly, he claims that he knows this revelation will not hurt his career or his position on the show, as he is confident he will be treated with respect and consideration from here on end. He expects his coming out will not be an issue with the film crew either.

His explanation for this was that “I had an upbringing to respect other people's privacy, and their right to be and choose what they want, and I expect, no, demand no less for myself.”

Nairn concluded, “It's a very small part of who I am on the whole, but nonetheless, in this day and age, it's important to stand up and be counted. I have and always will stand my ground. So, yeah, people have been great, on the show, but I don't see why it would be an issue.”
