On Monday, Australian wireless carrier Vodafone has announced officially the launch of Galaxy Tab, the first Android-based tablet PC coming from South Korean handset vendor Samsung Electronics.

The slate was already announced officially last week as being on its way to the Australian market, and Vodafone is among those carriers which plans on making it available for its users too.

“The Samsung Galaxy Tab, the 7 inch tablet running on the Android 2.2 platform is coming soon to Vodafone,” a recent post on the carrier's blog reads.

According to the mobile phone carrier, the new slate will offer a nice range of features to its users, including a premium, turn-by-turn navigation solution from NAVIGON

“Using preloaded Australian and New Zealand maps from NAVTEQ, NAVIGON delivers 2D and 3D map views, turn-by-turn voice guidance, drive and walk modes and intelligent address search,” the said blog post continues.

But this is not all, as the tablet PC will also be packed with a 2 month trial of The Australian news application, as well as with Electronic Arts’ Need For Speed SHIFT game

Among the other features that will be available for Vodafone's customers, the carrier lists the Samsung Readers Hub, with international and Australian e-reading (includes 1,600 newspapers, 2,500 magazines and 2 million e-books).

The 7-inch slate comes with a 1GHz application processor inside, able to offer increased performance levels to all users. Moreover, it includes dual cameras, with a 3.2MP photo snapper on the back, and with a 1.3 camera on the front for video calling.

The specs list also includes Wi-Fi, 3G (HSPA 7.2) and Bluetooth connectivity, along with GPS receiver, and microSD memory card slot for additional storage space.

Not to mention that Galaxy Tab comes with support for Flash Player 10.1 courtesy of Android 2.2, as well as with a series of Google Mobile Services, including Search, Maps, Goggles, Android Market, YouTube, and more.
