Just as announced only a week ago, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has made available for purchase in the United States a new device running under Google's Android operating system, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The tablet PC was unveiled in March this year as the slimmest such device in the world, and was already announced as being available in various markets around the world.

In the United States, the slate went for sale today via Best Buy's New York City store at Union Square, and was made available for pre-order for the rest of the country, with expected availability on June 17th.

Users who would like to purchase the new device but who are not interested in making a trip to New York for that should head to the retailer's website here to learn more on the matter.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 comes with a fast 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 application processor inside, a large 10.1-inch touchscreen display, and Google's Android 3.1 Honeycomb platform on board.

The new tablet PC offers support for Gmail, Google Maps, and more, as well as for great web browsing with Adobe's Flash Player 10.3.

“Your mobile life just got better with the amazing Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Its 10.1" widescreen HD (1280 x 800) display redefines high-resolution performance with razor-sharp movies, dazzling game graphics and crystal-clear video chats,” Best Buy notes on its website.

“Android 3.1 Honeycomb OS provides open access to over 200,000 Android Market apps and an immersive, lightning-fast web-browsing experience. And with a sleek design that's only .34" thin, the amazingly lightweight Galaxy Tab 10.1 goes anywhere you go and looks great doing it. It's time to Tab.”

The specifications list of this device would also include a 3-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for HD video recording, complemented by a 3MP camera on the front for video calling.

The tablet PC was launched in metallic grey an pure white flavors, with different models based on the available internal memory, namely 16GB or 32GB.
