14 DAY TRIAL // South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics is reportedly on track to begin mass production of its next Android-based flagship device as soon as January next year.
The handset, supposedly called Samsung Galaxy S5, might become official sometime in March 2014, and could be released during the same month, or in April.
Furthermore, the upcoming device is expected to land on shelves in two different versions, ETNews reports, though specific info on them is missing at the moment.
However, as SamMobile notes, it would not come as a surprise if Samsung indeed decided to bring the Galaxy S5 to the market faster, given that Galaxy S4 has seen sluggish sales.
The upcoming smartphone, previously rumored to adopt a metallic body, is now said to also feature a flexible OLED panel on the front, and to be released as a premium model.
However, it appears that Samsung is also considering the launch of a “regular” Galaxy S5 variant, one that would pack a plastic case, along with a normal OLED.
The upcoming flagship device will also arrive on shelves with 64-bit Exynos or a Snapdragon processor inside, as well as with 3GB of RAM for increased performance capabilities.
Furthermore, the smartphone should sport a 16-megapixel camera on the back, while being powered by a 4000 mAh battery.
Rumor has it that the new device will arrive on shelves with Android 4.4 KitKat right from the start, and that it will also sport an updated version of Samsung’s TouchWiz interface loaded on top.
As far as the new report goes, around 800,000 to one million Galaxy S5 units will be produced in January, but production will ramp up to as much as 6 million units in February.
However, no official confirmation on any of this has been provided as of now, and it remains to be seen whether Samsung will indeed release the upcoming Galaxy S5 sooner than the usual schedule. Stay tuned for more on this.
