Australian mobile phone carrier Vodafone has just started to deliver a new software update for one of the most appealing Android devices of the year, namely the Samsung Galaxy S II.

The new update is meant to upgrade the OS flavor on the mobile phone up to version 2.3.5, while also bringing along a series of other enhancements.

“An update for the Samsung Galaxy S II to Android 2.3.5 (I9100TDUKJ1) is now available via Samsung Kies or through your phone using FOTA,” the wireless carrier announced.

In a recent post on its blog, the wireless carrier also unveiled details on the enhancements that users will benefit from after installing the software update.

The company explains that “This software includes Gingerbread 2.3.5 update. Other updates include:

- Vodafone Updates application - Good Food Guide 2012 - Navigon - Samsung Music Hub”

The new software update weighs in at around 96 MB when downloaded over the air, the carrier notes, adding that it is of 1,003 MB in size when downloaded via Samsung’s KIES application.

Following the update, users will enjoy the Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread operating system on their devices. They will also see that the Baseband version is now I9100TDUKJ1 when checking on it in Menu>Settings>About Phone>Software Version.

Following the update, the build number on the handset will be GINGERBREAD.DUKJ1, while the Kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9100TDUKJ1-CL687461 root@DELL136 #2.

Those users who will perform the update over the air should know that it is available free of charge, but that it will require an Internet connection.

A similar connection is available when upgrading via the Samsung KIES software on a desktop PC as well.

Before kicking off the installation process, users should perform a backup of all of their data on the mobile phone, just to make sure that no important files are lost in the process.

Moreover, they should make sure that the handset has a fully charged battery inside, so that it won’t run out of juice during the installation.
