Wireless carrier T-Mobile appears set to make the newly announced Galaxy Note smartphone available for purchase on its network as soon as August 8.

The new device should become available on that day with a price tag of $199.99 attached to it with the signing of a two-year contract agreement on one of the carrier’s Equipment Installment Plans. The phone will also be available on standard plans, at $249.99.

Galaxy Note will be sold both through the wireless carrier’s stores, as well as online on the company’s website. In fact, it is already listed there with a “coming soon” tag next to it.

As soon as it hits shelves, the new device, the largest Android-based smartphone in the world, will receive a software update, the wireless carrier announced.

“Beginning August 8, the Samsung Galaxy Note will receive an out of box Over The Air (OTA) software update to Android version 4.0.3 / Software T879UVLG3. The update will also be available via Samsung Kies," T-Mobile notes on its support website.

The wireless carrier is set to push the new firmware to all devices before September 30. However, the company notes that it cannot offer specific info on when each device will receive it.

Those users who did not receive the over-the-air software update will be able to update their handsets through Samsung’s desktop application, Kies.

Galaxy Note will arrive on shelves with Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich on board (Software version T879UVLF5).

With the new firmware, T879UVLG3, which weighs 21.8 MB, Samsung and T-Mobile provide users with a series of enhancements and fixes.

The release notes for the new version show the following: - Error: ‘Enter MAC address’ after entering MAC address - Weather widget does not show current location - MobileLife contacts addresses combined into a single field

The update is available for all devices running the original Android 4.0.3 (Software version T879UVLF5) flavor. Users should make sure that their phone’s battery is at least 50 percent charged before starting the installation process.
