Owners of Samsung Galaxy Note II smartphones in India can now check for the availability of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS upgrade on their devices, as the handset vendor has started rolling it out to them.

The Galaxy Note II (GT-N7100) is still available in the country only with the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top, but users can now download and install the latest version of the mobile operating system, it seems.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat is currently being pushed to the mobile phone as build number N7100XXUFND3 and it should reach all handsets in the country shortly, as SamMobile notes.

Apparently, the update is available for download both over-the-air and through the Samsung Kies desktop application and is 416MB in size.

Users who will download and install the new software release on their Galaxy Note II devices will enjoy a nice range of enhancements as part of it.

No official changelog has been provided along with the new build, but KitKat for Samsung phones is already known to come with whitened icons in the status bar and UI changes, along with some other new features and improvements.

Among them, we can count an immersive mode, lock screen updates, and support for cloud printing. Moreover, the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS will also arrive on the handset with a series of performance improvements.

At the same time, Samsung is said to have included a new series of apps and features inside the update, such as Samsung Wallet, Knox security, and others.

As soon as the update is available for their devices, users will receive a notification on the matter and will be able to download and install it right away. However, they will also be provided with the option to postpone the installation process, should they wish to do so.

Users can also manually check on the availability of the new firmware on their devices, through heading to Settings > About phone > Software updates and clicking on the Check now button.

As it usually happens with this kind of updates, it is expected to arrive on devices in stages, which means that some users will not see it as available for their smartphones immediately.

However, Samsung will push it to all customers in a matter of days or weeks, which means that you should check on its availability again shortly if it does not appear as available now.

Galaxy Note II users in India can also manually download the update through a PC, as the guys over at SamMobile have already put the firmware on their servers, so head over there to grab it.
