Enthusiasts looking to purchase a Galaxy Nexus smartphone in India will have to wait a few weeks more before being able to do so.

Although the smartphone was expected to make it to the shelves in the country last year, it appears that it was pushed back by a mere three months.

Mobile phone users in India will get the smartphone only in March, at least this is what the handset vendor has confirmed via Twitter.

“As per the latest communication it is to be launched in March however we'll let you know if there is any change in the same,” Samsung India notes in a tweet posted as response to an inquiry about Galaxy Nexus’ arrival in the country.

It comes as a surprise that Samsung and Google chose to delay the Galaxy Nexus for so long in India. No explanation on why this happened has emerged so far.

One way or the other, it appears that the first Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich handset in the world will be hitting shelves in the country anywhere in the next 5 to 9 weeks.

Samsung did not specify a launched day for the mobile phone, though it might unveil some more details on the matter in the near future.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the Samsung Galaxy Note was launched with a 1.2GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4460 application processor inside, complemented by 1 GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory (a 32GB flavor was also unveiled).

The specs list for the new device also includes a 4.65-inchs Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, which can deliver a 720 x 1280 pixels resolution.

On the back, it packs a 5-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash, auto focus and support for 1080 video recording. It also comes with a 1.3 MP camera on the front, capable of shooting videos in 720p resolution.

Other specs of Galaxy Nexus include A-GPS support, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, microUSB, HSDPA, 21 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps, and a Li-Ion 1750 mAh battery inside.
