14 DAY TRIAL // Stardock has announced that its spacefaring 4X video game Galactic Civilizations III will be leaving Early Access and heading for a full launch this May.
The titles in the series are some of the most prestigious space 4X games ever made, with countless loyal fans swearing by the franchise since its inception back in 2003.
The developer touted its space exploration and conquest title as the largest and most diverse strategy sandbox to date, enticing armchair generals with a pretty diverse mix of action, from hundreds of technological advancements to research, diplomatic treaties and United Planets resolutions.
As expected, the meat of the experience is building large space fleets and engaging in massive battles, but the planetary development options are also what draw gamers to 4X titles, and Galactic Civilizations III does not fail to provide them.
One of the most exciting additions to the entire thing is the use of online multiplayer, complete with leaderboards and metadata, for the first time in the franchise's history. This means that you will no longer have to make do with whatever artificial intelligence the developers are able to put together, as you’ll be able to test your mettle against the best minds in the world.

In addition to this, Stardock has made the game completely mod-friendly, offering intrepid modders tons of content and tools to work with. Modding is a pretty big thing and one of the advantages of gaming on a PC, as often times, devoted members of the community manage to put together really impressive mods and to fix or alter many of the game's settings, offering users a wider array of gameplay choices.
The game has been available on Steam's Early Access program since March last year, and now Stardock is getting ready to release it into the wild. The game will be playable on 64-bit Windows machines, and you can check out the system requirements on its Steam page.
