Though she didn’t even know her, Lady Gaga surely took Amy Winehouse’s death to heart, since she too was one of Amy’s many fans. In a new interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Gaga again tackled the topic of drugs, Amy’s death and the lesson the world should learn from it.

The British singer was found dead in her apartment in London about two weeks ago. Extremely talented, Amy had also led an extremely troubled life, her year-long struggle with drug and alcohol addiction being well documented in the press.

Nevertheless, it’s not yet a known fact that either played a part in her death. This will be determined only when toxicology results are in.

With all that, Gaga says she personally wanted to reach out to help Amy – she just never got the chance.

“It really affected me quite deeply. Isn’t it strange to say ‘She is,’ and now I have to say ‘She was?’ I’m just really glad that we got to admire her and tell her how much we loved her when she was alive,” Gaga tells Rolling Stone.

“I hope she knows now in Heaven, where she is, how much we all loved her,” she adds.

Not only was she a huge fan of Amy’s music, but she was also deeply moved by her personal issues, more than once thinking about what she could do to help her solve them out.

She never got the chance, which only makes the tragedy twice as sad, because, with Winehouse’s death, the music industry took a severe blow.

“It’s just too tragic. I wanted to talk to her and tell her that if she doesn’t stop she’s going to die. I wanted to talk her out of the drugs, but unfortunately I never had a chance to talk to her,” she says.

“She’s really special. She just gave me a lot of hope and she deserved a lot better than what people gave her. And I hope that the world learns a lesson from this. I really hope they do. Because it’s not her lesson to learn – it’s the world’s,” Gaga adds.

Gaga also owes Amy musically, because she opened the door for a new wave of singers, singers who couldn’t fit anywhere else until then and also include Gaga.
