Unless Christina brings back her old sound

Ever since Christina Aguilera released the first single off her comeback album, “Bionic,” out in stores this summer, comparisons between her new sound and Lady Gaga’s releases have not ceased to circulate. Whereas songwriter Claude Kelly recently said that such comparisons were meritless, Akon is of a different opinion, Vibe magazine informs.

Gaga is signed to Akon’s Kon Live Distribution since 2008 so it would be somewhat understandable why he’d say Christina Aguilera would not stand a chance in face-off in the charts with Lady Gaga. There is a “but” in there too, as Akon sees it: Christina would only lose out to Gaga if she did not return to her old sound, the one that made her the huge star she is today. She doesn’t have to prove anything so why does she seem like she’s trying to be someone she’s not with “Not Myself Tonight,” her latest single, says Akon.

“Aw man, that’s not even any competition,” Akon tells Vibe when asked about Gaga – Aguilera comparisons. “You are actually giving Christina too much credit. She always had her cool little look and way about how she went about things. But soon as Gaga came out everything switched up. Christina stepped out of her own shell to become something different. And the crazy thing is Christina is really talented. She has unlimited range when it comes to singing. Her voice is out of here. I just think she just needs to believe in herself more. I think sometimes she gets insecure because of all of the success Gaga has had not realizing that she was already successful before Gaga came out,” he adds.

In short, Christina needs to stick to the sound that made her famous and leave the bad girl act to Gaga. Her voice should – and is – enough to get her noticed, she doesn’t need anything else. “Christina shouldn’t have anything to prove or anyone to compete with. I miss the old Christina Aguilera. I like the old one better than the new one. Honestly, Gaga and Christina could probably get together and do something that’s amazing. But that’s impossible if they are both trying to do the same exact thing musically,” Akon adds.

As we also reported this past weekend, songwriter Claude Kelly recently said that talk of Christina copying Gaga’s sound was nonsense, since the former has been on the scene for a decade, whereas the latter has only been here for a short while. He should know what he’s talking about, since he worked closely with Aguilera on her “Bionic” album.
