The Online mode for Grand Theft Auto V might have received a fairly hefty update in time for Independence Day, but the fan base is already hungry to get more content for the title, and some in-game code suggests that the development team might be getting ready to unveil a zombie-based update for the game.

The forums of the game are filled with speculation after players looked into the code for GTA V and found a lot of references to the ZMB acronym, which has been widely interpreted as having something to do with undead enemies.

A secret menu which contains both a Dead and a Trevor option has been uncovered, which probably means that gamers will get two pieces of downloadable content at some point in the future.

It’s unclear whether the zombies are linked to the single-player component of GTA V, which would mean that gamers will simply roam the city in order to take out the undead, presumably with a number of powerful new weapons, or if Rockstar plans to also deliver undead to the multiplayer, which would open up a number of cooperative missions for the community.

It’s also possible that the zombies will be first introduced to the campaign in order to give fans of the world a clear idea of how they work before moving them to all the modes.

Rockstar has not commented on the leaked information based on game modes, but an official announcement might be made in the coming weeks, especially given that the Gamescome 2014 event is coming up.

A previous rumor also suggested that GTA V Online would get a big update based around casinos, which would allow gamers to play a wide variety of mini-games that can make them lose their hard-earned cash.

A video for the title also shows a variety of character moves that are associated with the much rumored Heists downloadable content, which is designed to introduce bigger cooperative events for the community.

The DLC was initially set to arrive during spring, but the development team has suggested that it is delaying it in order to apply an extra layer of polish.

Grand Theft Auto V will be launched on the PC, the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft at some point before the end of the year and will include upgraded graphics, a world with more pedestrians and details, and an improved gameplay.
