So says Microsoft man

The Xbox 360 is in a very good place these days, as more and more units are shipped around the world and its main opponent, the PlayStation 3, still deters clients with its high price tag, customers who are then driven to the Microsoft-made console to meet their gaming needs.

The North American console also saw a boost in popularity last month, as one of the most successful titles of 2008, Grand Theft Auto IV, received its first DLC episode, The Lost and Damned, exclusively on the Xbox 360. All of this while the PlayStation 3 received its exclusive Killzone 2 shooter, along with a variety of other multiplatform titles for both platforms.

Microsoft's group product manager for the Xbox 360, Aaron Greenberg, talked about the two exclusives and didn't miss the opportunity to mock Sony and its title with the record-breaking sales of GTA: The Lost and Damned. While he didn't offer any numbers, the same as last week when Rockstar and Microsoft only said it was the most successful paid download ever, Greenberg did speculate that if the DLC episode had been released on a disk it would have surely beaten Killzone 2.

“[GTA The Lost and Damned is] the most successful game addon content we've ever launched,” said Greenberg. “If that content was sold at retail, it would be one of the best sellers across all platforms. It would have outsold Killzone 2.”

Now, it is fair to say that the DLC episode was released two weeks before Killzone 2, in the middle of February, but Sony's exclusive shooter was only marketed starting with the last days of the month. During those last few days though it did manage to shift a very decent 323,000 units.

As the NPD numbers have just come in, the replies from the big companies are sure to appear soon so keep watching Softpedia to read all the juicy statements that the three big console manufacturers will make.
