After rolling out the special Independence Day patch 1.15 for Grand Theft Auto 5, Rockstar Games has confirmed that today, July 3, it's kicking off the special Independence Day event weekend, which includes special Double GTA$ and RP rewards in a new multiplayer mission playlist, as well as in-game discounts on a variety of things.

Grand Theft Auto 5 captured the hearts and minds of tens of millions of PS3 and Xbox 360 owners around the world when it appeared last September. Since then, Rockstar has kept people hooked on the open world experience by rolling out plenty of free updates designed to enrich the GTA Online multiplayer mode with fresh content and missions.

In honor of the upcoming Independence Day, Rockstar has already released a special free update for GTA 5 and has now rolled out a special event weekend that's filled with lots of bonuses and surprises for all those players in GTA Online.

First up, the four-day event debuts today, July 3, and ends on July 6. During this time, the virtual world of San Andreas will be filled with rewards, discounts, and other such deals for players.

To start things off, a special Independence Day Special Event playlist is now available in GTA Online, which includes some of the new jobs that have just been added by the recent update. Playing them nets participants double the amount of GTA$ and RP.

"The Independence Day Special Event Playlist is a special selection of some of the brand new Rockstar-created Jobs published this week including specific Races for new vehicles like the Sovereign motorcycle and the super-sized Liberator monster truck," Rockstar said on its Social Club.

"This weekend only, this Playlist will score you Double GTA$ and Double RP. To access the Playlist, just go to Online > Playlists > Rockstar Created in the GTA Online Start Menu and select 'Independence Day Event' from the options listed. Alternatively, hit the Event button in the GTAV loading screens to launch straight into the Playlist."

What's more, inside the game, players will be able to enjoy discounts on airstrikes that reduce their cost to 75% as well as a 25% price cut on heavy ammunition for RPGs, grenade launches, or miniguns.

And last but not least, to ensure that players can easily purchase and receive the Liberator monster truck that was just added by the Independence Day update, Rockstar has enabled free deliveries via the Pegasus system.

A special Snapmatic contest is also available this weekend, as Rockstar wants to award the most imaginative player with 1 million in GTA$ and a special vanity license plate.
