GoSolarUSA has announced that it signed a profit participation agreement with Xiamen Solar Electronics (XSE), to provide the latter with development funding for the Volt Solar Charger, an external battery pack that attaches to the iPhone and extends its battery life using a built-in solar panel.

For its part, XSE will provide GSLO a percentage of XSE’s future net profits worldwide.

The agreement is but the latest development in a burgeoning relationship between GoSolarUSA and XSE, the former said.

“I’m pleased to say that we’re developing a strong partnership with Xiamen Solar Electronics,” said GoSolarUSA CEO, Tyson Rohde.

“We feel that XSE is an ideal partner for GoSolarUSA because the Volt Solar Charger represents a true breakthrough in applying renewable solar energy to the world of consumer electronics. We are very impressed with the device’s worldwide sales potential,” Rohde added.

GSLO is already doing business with Yosion, a Chinese hardware developer that came up with the Peel 520, an accessory for Apple’s iPod touch that can turn the media player into a smartphone.

The company run by Tyson Rhode seems eager to try new partnerships as well, this time eyeing the Volt Solar Charger, a solar-powered external battery pack for iPhones.

The Volt is allegedly capable of harvesting solar energy to charge all versions of the Apple iPhone with the same device.

Interestingly, the advertising material over at GSLO's web site appears to be featuring an iPhone clone or, at the very least, a jailbroken device with modified application icons.

“By capturing free, renewable solar power, the Volt recharges the iPhone’s battery first before charging its own internal battery, nearly doubling the smartphone’s talk time,” GSLO claims.

“The Volt includes a larger battery than its competitors and is the only iPhone battery pack known to the company to include a reception corrector,” the company explains.

The device will reportedly ship in multiple colors, complete with a USB cable for when the sun goes down.

The GSLO CEO acknowledges that “Apple recently reported that it sold 14.1 million iPhones in the most recent quarter alone, and it has raised its target for first-quarter iPhone shipments by as much as 10 percent.”

“With Verizon Wireless, the largest mobile phone provider in the U.S., strongly rumored to be preparing to offer the iPhone to subscribers, we anticipate the growth of new Apple users to accelerate in the coming years,” Rhode added.

“With so many iPhones in circulation, a battery pack such as the Volt has the potential to make solar energy a part of the daily lives of millions of North Americans,” he concluded.
