GParted Live 0.8.0-5 has been released bringing an updated kernel, a newer OS base and updated packages. It's now based on a very recent snapshot of Debian Sid and runs a cutting edge Linux kernel 2.6.38-1.

The only addition is the inclusion of ssh though it is not enabled by default. There's not much else to say, it's a minor release. Since Gparted Live gets updated a couple of times a month, new releases aren't very spectacular.

Highlights of GParted Live 0.8.0-5:

· The underlying GNU/Linux operating system is based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2011/Mar/21). · The linux kernel has been updated to 2.6.38-1. · Package ssh was added in this release. - By default ssh service is not started, and if you want to start it, make sure you have change the password and the file /etc/hosts.deny. · Bug fixed: a workaround was added to make setxkbmap work.

As the version number would imply, GParted Live 0.8.0-5 includes GParted 0.8.0 which was released a little over a month ago. Among the notable new features of this latest release is the possibility to try and recover data from lost partitions.

GParted 0.8.0 can guess the partition table of a drive and then mount the partitions as read only so you can retrieve data from the disk without the risk of overwriting it.

Gparted Live is a bare-bones Linux distro designed with a single purpose in mind, get GParted working. Everything is set up to allow users to boot up from a CD or USB and be able to use GParted to manage a system's disks. Very few packages are included except the ones specifically needed by GParted.
