GParted Live, a small bootable GNU/Linux distribution for x86-based computers that can be used for creating, reorganizing, and deleting disk partitions with the help of tools that allow managing filesystems, has just been upgraded to version 0.19.0-1.

GParted Live can be installed on CD, USB, PXE server, and hard disk, then run on an x86 machine. People will find it very easy to use and shouldn’t have any problems running the operating system.

This is a very useful tool to have, especially if you are planning to use it before installing a new operating system, but it can also be employed for fixing other problems, such missing MBRs, partition recovery, and numerous other issues.

“The Gparted team is proud to announce the stable release of GParted Live 0.19.0-1. This live image includes fixes to improve booting on UEFI firmware computers, and has undergone extra testing to ensure it works with motherboard BIOS RAID (aka FAKE RAID),” reads the changelog.

As usual, the first update the developers made is for the Debian base, which, in this case, was updated on June 11, 2014. This is, of course, the stable branch of Debian and the update includes numerous other packages.

Another big improvement is the adoption of a new Linux kernel, 3.14.5-1, which is now the latest stable release. Having the latest kernel in your distribution is actually very important because it provides users with support for the latest hardware. This is even more important in operating systems such as this one, which is supposed to work on most computers without any issues.

The developers have also upgraded Syslinux to version 6.03-pre13 and they have increased the minimum requirements to 160 MB of RAM (which, in fact, is a very small requirement). Also, the CD/DVD tray is no longer ejected on shutdown or reboot, the OperationDetail code has been refactored to address some random crash behavior, and the partition information dialog is now viewable on 800x600 screens.

A complete list of new features and bug fixes can be found in the changelog. You can download GParted Live 0.19.0-1 right now from Softpedia. This is a very small distribution and weighs in at a little over 180MB, which makes it ideal for recovery and partitioning jobs.

Please keep in mind that this is a very powerful tool and it can do as much damage as it does good if it falls into the wrong hands or if it's not used properly.
