Word has it that the wearable market is thriving and there are thousands of people out there wearing Nike Fuels and Fitbits around their wrists.

The GOQii is a fitness band that is a newcomer to the party and a few of you are probably familiar with its name.

Unlike many wearable devices of the sort, the GOQii arrives with a personalized coach, which means that not only will you be able to track your daily activities and calories burned, but a bunch of experts will try to make sense of the data coming through the wearable and provide you with tips on how to better your lifestyle.

Anyway, the GOQii might have received an important boost towards becoming a big name in the wearable industry. The smartband maker has just been awarded funding from WhatsApp’s very own Neeraj Arora and Amazon’s VP of Web Services – Mobile, Marco Argenti.

GOQii has been in the making ever since February and has just stepped out into the market this week. With this new backup, the company’s hopes of being able to make a statement on the wearable market have received a big push.

Other investors riding on the GOQii boat include Amit Singhal from Google, Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit Nene, Steve Luczo from Segate, or Taher Khorakiwala and Vijay Vashee from Microsoft.

GOQii relies on a system that makes use of Karma points, which you earn by meeting the daily goals you have previously set out for yourself. As a fun fact, these points can be donated to good causes and GOQii has already set up a partnership with Oxfam India to be its Karma receiver.

The company’s CEO is a convinced fitness freak, who, upon scouting the market, came to the conclusion that what he needed was a mix between a fitness band a physical coach to give users the push needed in order to see some real life results.

That’s why GOQii is a gadget that facilitates the connection with a coach via the app and pre-scheduled monthly video/audio calls. Quite neat, don’t you think?

But as with every good thing out there, there’s a caveat (big surprise). You will have to pay for the services of the coach too. So the GOQii will be offered with a six-month plan, which includes both the band and professional services.

Opting for this will take you back Rs 6,999 / $114 / €85, while the 12-month scenario entails that you pay up to Rs 11,999 / $196 / €146.
