GOM Player 2.2.56.5181 is now available for download, and although the version number suggests a rather minor update, the new build comes with plenty of options and lots of bug fixes.

According to an official announcement released by the parent company earlier today, the developing team has made major improvements to the Gretech Source Filter and improved playback support for MOV files recorded by CASIO digital cameras as well as the player’s ability to correctly recognize display aspect ratios for various file types.

As far as playback support is concerned, the application comes with improvements for MPEG1 and MPEG2 files (TS, MTS, M2TS, etc.) and OGM files, while the new build also fixes an issue causing some MOV files to not be played smoothly below the 1x playback speed.

There are several new options, including 90, 180, and 270 degree rotation feature, playback support for H.265 (HEVC) video files, hardware playback support for Intel Quick Sync Video and support for AC3-SPDIF Output and Apple Closed Caption subtitles.

Last but not least, “album art will now be displayed when playing MP3 files instead of the animated GOM background (but only if readable album art data is present for the file you are playing!),” the developing team explained in the announcement.

Plenty of other unnamed bug fixes and performance improvements are also part of the release, which means that the app should be a bit lighter on system resources and repair some unexpected crashes.

GOM Player continues to offer support for all Windows builds on the market and thanks to some previous updates, it also works flawlessly on Microsoft’s modern operating systems, which include Windows 8 and 8.1.

Overall, this is clearly a must-have version of all users, so download GOM Player 2.2.56.5181 right now to get all these improvements on your Windows computer too.
