The GNOME Project has just announced the general availability of the GNOME 3.16.2 desktop environment, the second and last maintenance release of the 3.16 series.

We were the first to report the news yesterday, on May 13, and bring you detailed information about what was changed in the core components and applications of the GNOME 3.16 desktop environment.

Apparently, not all GNOME core components were updated in time for the big announcement, as two of the most important ones, GNOME Shell and Mutter, were published with a 24-hour delay.

The good news, however, is that GNOME Shell 3.16.2 user interface and Mutter 3.16.2 window manager are now up for download, and they might just be available in the main software repositories of your Linux distribution.

Here's what's new in GNOME Shell 3.16.2

According to the changelog, GNOME Shell 3.16.2 makes the event highlight functionality in the Calendar applet more prominent, addresses a keyboard focus issue that occurred when focusing a notification banner, and moves the notification banners under dateMenu.

Additionally, it increases the visibility of the expanders in the ALT-Tab pop-up, and it now makes sure that the suspend inhibitors are being released when the VT switches away. Several minor bugs that were present in GNOME Shell 3.16.1 were also fixed in this maintenance release.

Here's what's new in Mutter 3.16.2

On the other hand, Mutter 3.16.2 is here to fix scroll button setting issues, it no longer resets the idle time for non-hardware events, and respects the default value for click method setting. As expected, there are fixes for some other minor issues that have been reported from Mutter 3.16.1.

Both GNOME Shell 3.16.2 and Mutter 3.16.2 are now available for download on Softpedia, but it is recommended that you check your distribution's software center for the updates in the coming days. They are distributed as part of the GNOME 3.16.2 desktop environment.
