This is a luxury phone with average specs

Over the years, we have seen a few device makers launch exclusive smartphones aimed at the rich and very rich. Like the $6,000 / €5,463 Lamborgini 88 Tauri handset that we were telling you about a few months ago.

Surprisingly, there are quite a plethora of luxury phone producers ready to cater to the needs of the most exclusive customers. GEMRY seems to be one of these companies.

Hailing from Great Britain, the company boasts that its products implement the best technology and top-shelf craftsmanship to deliver the most impressive premium products you can hope to find.

The company is currently selling the GEMRY R12 Mobile Phone, which is offered in rose gold or diamond appointed and comes with a price tag between $2,400 / €2,185 and $4,800 / €4,370.

On top of gold and diamonds, the back plate of the phone can be customized with a variety of animal hides, including raw python leather, shark or lizard. PETA is not going to like this all all.

The phone looks nice outwardly, but its insides are nothing to fret about

Anyway, as is the case with these luxury phones, the manufacturer focuses more on the outside than on the inside, so hardware specifications are bound to be less than impressive.

So let’s see what all that cash will get you. The R12 arrives with a pretty wide 5.85-inch display with no specified resolution, but we have to guess it is 720p.

Power comes from a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon clocked at 1.7GHz, although we’re not being told exactly which model. We’re probably dealing with Snapdragon 600, the same system-on-chip that fueled the HTC One M7 back when it was released in 2013.

GEMRY is also throwing in 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a 13MP/2MP camera setup. In the software department, things are really stuck in the past, as the phone arrives with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

The world of mobile is getting ready to advance to Android M, but GEMRY is not shying away from selling a phone with an ancient operating system on board.

As you can see, technically speaking, the GEMRY phone is nothing to faint about, but if you want a phone made of premium materials to show off to your friends, then the R12 is the right choice for you. Especially since the device sells for an “acceptable” price tag, compared to other luxury brands.
